qing dynasty gaiwan
NOTE: THIS PIECE HAS BEEN SOLD. Description remains for your reference and education.
Imagine being able to sip tea 100-150 years ago, perhaps with the Empress Dowager at the Summer Palace, and you might see yourself being entertained with this lovely and rare Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty (1644-1912) gaiwan, dated as carefully as possible to the Guanxu Period (1875-1908) of the Qing Dynasty.
There is a red hanko/chop on the base of the "bowl" and on the lid of the gaiwan. Made of delicate porcelain with a slightly pale-blue glaze, this gaiwan features a clean, undecorated interior that would allow the beauty of an infusion to shine in the luminous vintage porcelain.
